SP 1273 – Spice
Recommended Firing Range: 1180–1250°C
Form: Supplied as a liquid glaze in 175 g, 500 g, and 1000 g containers.
Application Characteristics
- Baharat is an opaque artistic glaze featuring coffee and cinnamon-toned speckles on a warm beige background.
- In thin applications, delicately scattered coffee-colored speckles appear on the warm beige surface, creating a subtle and refined aesthetic.
- As the application thickness increases, the density of the speckles becomes more pronounced, and brown tones gain greater visual dominance across the surface.
- When fired at 1250°C, subtle tonal halos may develop around the coffee-colored speckles.
- In thicker applications, both the speckle density and these tonal variations become more prominent, creating rich brown visual movement and enhancing the dominance of brown shades throughout the surface.
- Thanks to its opaque nature, the glaze provides a full-bodied, highly covering finish, while the natural transitions between the warm beige background and brown tones create unique and dynamic surface effects with every firing.
- Glossy surface finish.
- Opaque glaze.
- No running tendency when applied within the recommended thickness range.
- Acid-resistant and free from toxic substances.
Application Methods
- For brush application, 1–3 coats are recommended.
- For spray or dipping applications, approximately 5–30% water may be added to adjust the consistency.
- Recommended Baumé range: 45–55.
Testing Recommendations
- For customers using our glazes for the first time, we recommend creating test tiles using their own firing schedules and application methods to evaluate the results.
- Preparing both vertical and horizontal test pieces can be helpful in understanding the glaze’s behavior.
- The sample shown in the product image was applied on BNC 1200 white porcelain clay.
- As glaze performance and visual effects may vary depending on the clay body used, testing on your own clay is recommended.
- When combining artistic glazes with other artistic or standard glaze groups, testing is strongly recommended to avoid unexpected results.
Care and Cleaning
- When washed in a dishwasher, the glaze surface may be exposed to high-temperature chemical detergents. Over time, slight dulling or changes in the artistic surface effects may occur.
Safety
- The use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during application is recommended.
- As glazes react to heat, they should be kept away from fire and open flame sources during handling and application.
- Children should use the product only under adult supervision.
Storage
- Store in airtight containers away from direct sunlight.
- If the product dries out after extended storage, add a small amount of water, mix thoroughly, and strain before use.
- After opening, the application-enhancing additives, stabilizers, and preservatives contained in the glaze may gradually lose effectiveness over time. While this typically does not affect the fired result, it may impact application performance, making the glaze more difficult to apply or causing pre-firing surface cracking.
- If you encounter such issues, please contact us for technical support and recommended solutions.

- All ready to use glazes are available in 118 ml, 335 ml and 670 ml jars.
- Our glazes are formulated ready to use in liquid forms.
- It is recommended to apply by brush two to three even coats.
- For other application methods you can add 5 %- 10 % water for diluting.
- Before application, the glaze should be homogeneous.
- We suggest you to test glazes on tiles and later on make final applications.
