S 1088 / Browni
Recommended Firing Range: 1030–1060°C
Available Sizes: 175 g, 500 g and 1000 g
Form: Liquid
Product Overview
S 1088 / Browni is an artistic glaze featuring a matte dark brown base with distinctive glossy black speckles. During firing, the particles spread evenly across the surface, creating a smooth and refined finish.
The artistic effect becomes more pronounced as the application thickness increases. A higher number of coats results in a greater density of black speckles on the surface, allowing for a stronger decorative effect.
The glaze provides opaque coverage, combining a deep matte brown base with glossy black particles to create a distinctive surface contrast.
Key Features
- Matte dark brown base
- Glossy black speckles
- Smooth surface finish
- Opaque coverage
- Artistic effect that intensifies with application thickness
- Acid-resistant
- Contains no toxic substances
Application Instructions
S 1088 / Browni is particularly suitable for brush application.
For brush application, the recommended application thickness is 1–3 coats, depending on the desired intensity and artistic effect.
For spray gun or dipping applications, approximately 5–30% water may be added to adjust the glaze consistency.
Recommended Baumé: 45–55
Important Note on Particle-Containing Glazes
Particle-containing glazes require relatively high viscosity to keep the particles suspended. For this reason, brush application is recommended for more consistent results.
When the glaze is diluted for pouring or dipping, the particles may tend to settle at the bottom of the container. This can negatively affect the even distribution of the speckles during application.
For best results, mix the glaze thoroughly and monitor its consistency throughout the application process.
Testing Recommendations
For customers using our glazes for the first time, we recommend preparing test tiles using their own clay body, application method, and firing schedule. Testing on both vertical and horizontal surfaces can help determine the glaze’s behavior and the ideal application thickness.
The product shown in the image was applied over CMR 250 White Casting Clay.
When combining S 1088 / Browni with another artistic glaze or other glaze groups, we recommend conducting preliminary tests to minimize the risk of unexpected results.
As the final appearance may vary depending on the clay body, application thickness, firing schedule, and kiln conditions, test firing is recommended before production.
Care & Cleaning
When washed in a dishwasher, the glaze surface may be exposed to high-temperature chemical solutions. This may result in changes to the matte finish or variations in the artistic characteristics of the glaze.
For this reason, hand washing is recommended to help preserve the original surface characteristics.
Safety Information
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment during application.
- Keep the product away from fire and open flame sources during application.
- Children should use the product only under adult supervision.
Storage & Shelf Life
Store the glaze in an airtight container, protected from direct sunlight.
If the product begins to dry after prolonged storage, add a small amount of water, mix thoroughly, and strain before use.
After opening, the application-enhancing agents, stabilizers, and preservatives contained in the glaze may gradually lose their effectiveness over time. This generally does not affect the final firing result but may affect application performance.
The glaze may become more difficult to apply, or pre-firing cracks may appear on the surface.
If you experience any application-related issues, please contact us for further assistance.
Application Tip
For a more consistent artistic effect, apply the glaze evenly and maintain a consistent application thickness. We recommend testing different coat thicknesses on sample tiles before applying the glaze to your final piece.
S 1088 / Browni combines the depth of a matte dark brown base with the striking contrast of glossy black speckles, offering a sophisticated and distinctive finish for decorative ceramic applications.
