Product Code: SP 1486 – Hibiscus

Recommended Firing Range: 1200–1250°C
Form: Supplied in liquid form in 175 g, 500 g, and 1000 g packages.

Application Characteristics

  • An effect glaze that produces dark pink tones with white surface vibrations. In thin applications, the surface mainly shows pomegranate red shades. As the application thickness increases, the white surface vibrations become more prominent, creating a strong pink color.
  • At 1200°C, the glaze is opaque, while at 1250°C, the surface becomes semi-opaque.
  • Glossy surface finish.
  • Semi-opaque glaze.
  • No running tendency in the 1200–1220°C range. Between 1220–1250°C, running may occur depending on application thickness.
  • Acid-resistant.
  • Does not contain toxic substances.

Note: In thick applications, this glaze tends to develop pinholes around 1200°C; this issue stabilizes and disappears between 1220–1250°C.

Application Methods

  • Suitable for brush application; recommended thickness is 2–3 coats.
  • For spray (pistol) or dipping methods, add approximately 5–30% water to adjust density.
  • Recommended Baumé range: 45–55.

Testing Recommendation

  • For first-time users of our glazes, we recommend preparing test tiles under your own kiln conditions and application methods to evaluate results. Preparing both vertical and horizontal test pieces according to your application method helps you understand the glaze.
  • In the product image, the glaze was applied on BNC 1200 white porcelain clay.
  • When combining artistic glazes with other artistic or different glaze groups, testing is recommended to avoid possible defects.

Care and Cleaning

  • When washed in a dishwasher, the glaze surface may be exposed to high-temperature chemical solutions, which can cause matting or variations in artistic characteristics.

Safety

  • Personal protective equipment is recommended during application.
  • As glazes interact with heat, keep away from fire and open flame sources during application.
  • Children should use the product under adult supervision.

Storage

  • Store in airtight conditions and protect from direct sunlight.
  • If stored for a long time, the product may begin to dry. In this case, add some water, mix thoroughly, and sieve before use.
  • After opening, over time, brushing agents, stabilizers, and antibacterial additives may lose effectiveness. This generally does not affect the firing result but may influence application performance (e.g., more difficult application or pre-firing surface cracking). Contact us for recommendations if this occurs.

  • All ready to use glazes are available in 118 ml, 335 ml and 670 ml jars.
  • Our glazes are formulated ready to use in liquid forms.
  • It is recommended to apply by brush two to three even coats.
  • For other application methods you can add 5 %- 10 % water for diluting.
  • Before application, the glaze should be homogeneous.
  • We suggest you to test glazes on tiles and later on make final applications.
