Product Code: SP 1499 – Poppy
Recommended Firing Range: 1200–1250°C
Form: Supplied in liquid form in 175 g, 500 g, and 1000 g packages.
Application Characteristics
- This artistic glaze stands out with its red base and fine brown speckles. Thin applications create a semi-transparent effect with fewer speckles. Thicker applications enhance the red tone, increase speckle density, and create more vibrant surface transitions. The glaze character changes depending on firing temperature: at 1200°C it produces small speckles, while at 1250°C the speckles enlarge, giving a yellow-tinted shimmering effect.
- Glossy surface finish.
- Semi-opaque glaze.
- No running tendency within the recommended firing range.
- Acid-resistant.
- Free of toxic substances.
Application Methods
- Suitable for brush application; recommended thickness is 1–2 coats.
- For spray (pistol) or dipping methods, add approximately 5–30% water to adjust density.
- Recommended Baumé range: 45–55.
Testing Recommendation
- First-time users should prepare test tiles under their own kiln conditions and application methods to evaluate results. Both vertical and horizontal test pieces help to understand the glaze’s behavior.
- In the product image, the glaze was applied on BNC 1200 white porcelain clay.
- When combining artistic glazes with other artistic or different glaze groups, testing is recommended to avoid possible defects.
Care and Cleaning
- Washing in a dishwasher may expose the glaze surface to high-temperature chemical solutions, potentially causing matting or variation in artistic effects.
Safety
- Personal protective equipment is recommended during application.
- Glazes interact with heat; keep away from fire and open flame during application.
- Children should use the product under adult supervision.
Storage
- Store in airtight conditions and protect from direct sunlight.
- If stored for a long time, the glaze may begin to dry. Add water, mix thoroughly, and sieve before use.
- After opening, over time, brushing agents, stabilizers, and antibacterial additives may lose effectiveness. This usually does not affect the firing result but may influence application performance (e.g., harder application or pre-firing surface cracking). Contact us for recommendations if this occurs.

- All ready to use glazes are available in 118 ml, 335 ml and 670 ml jars.
- Our glazes are formulated ready to use in liquid forms.
- It is recommended to apply by brush two to three even coats.
- For other application methods you can add 5 %- 10 % water for diluting.
- Before application, the glaze should be homogeneous.
- We suggest you to test glazes on tiles and later on make final applications.
