Product Code: SP 1208 – Winter Sun
Category: Crystal Glazes
Recommended Firing Range: 1200–1220°C
Form: Supplied in liquid form in 175 g, 500 g, and 1000 g packages.

Product Characteristics

  • The glaze has a cream-colored base tone with darker cream transitions. White–yellow transitional crystals are observed on the surface.
  • High opacity.
  • Glossy surface finish.
  • Shows running tendency in 2–3 or more coats depending on application thickness.
  • Does not contain toxic substances.

NOTE: In crystal glazes, acid resistance may vary depending on the density and distribution of the crystals formed on the surface. When crystals densely and completely cover the surface, acid resistance is lower.
On surfaces with balanced and controlled crystal distribution, the glass structure maintains continuity, resulting in higher acid resistance.
Therefore, the chemical durability of crystal-patterned products is directly related to the glaze structure on the surface and the individual production process.

Application Methods

IMPORTANT NOTE: In crystal glazes, both thin and thick applications are used together on the same surface to support crystal formation.

If the entire surface is applied excessively thick, crystals form densely, cannot separate from each other, and completely cover the surface. This creates what is known as a crystal matte effect — a matte and slightly textured appearance.

In very thin applications, crystal development remains weak. Therefore:

  • On vertical surfaces, a thicker application on the upper areas that gradually becomes thinner toward the bottom is preferred.
  • On horizontal surfaces, localized transitions between thin and thick areas support balanced crystal distribution.

Through this process, each piece develops its own unique crystal pattern.

Crystal glazes provide more efficient results when applied by spray (pistol) or pouring/dipping methods.

  • For brush application, the recommended thickness is 1 to 3 coats on the same surface.
  • For spray or dipping methods, it is recommended to add approximately 5–30% water to adjust the density.
  • Recommended Baumé range: 45–55.

Testing Recommendation

  • For customers using our glazes for the first time, we recommend preparing test tiles under your own kiln conditions and application methods to evaluate the results. Preparing both vertical and horizontal test pieces according to your application method will help you better understand the glaze.
  • In the product image, the glaze was applied on BNC 1200 white porcelain clay. Due to its transparent characteristics, the color and artistic effect may vary on colored clay bodies.
  • When combining artistic glazes with other artistic or different glaze groups, we recommend testing to avoid possible defects.

Care and Cleaning

  • When washed in a dishwasher, the glaze surface may be exposed to high-temperature chemical solutions. This may cause matting or variations in its artistic characteristics.

Safety

  • The use of personal protective equipment during application is recommended.
  • As glazes interact with heat, keep away from fire and open flame sources during application.
  • Children should use the product under adult supervision.

Storage

  • Store in airtight conditions and protect from direct sunlight.
  • If stored for a long time, the product may begin to dry. In this case, add some water, mix thoroughly, and sieve before use.
  • After opening, over time the brushing agents, stabilizers, and antibacterial additives in the glaze may lose effectiveness. This generally does not affect the firing result but may influence application performance (e.g., more difficult application or pre-firing surface cracking). If you encounter such a situation, please contact us for solution recommendations.

  • All ready to use glazes are available in 118 ml, 335 ml and 670 ml jars.
  • Our glazes are formulated ready to use in liquid forms.
  • It is recommended to apply by brush two to three even coats.
  • For other application methods you can add 5 %- 10 % water for diluting.
  • Before application, the glaze should be homogeneous.
  • We suggest you to test glazes on tiles and later on make final applications.
